Road Construction is Now Complete

Overview

The City of Lake Geneva will be performing road construction on the main road outside of Maxwell Mansion beginning on August 28, 2023. The contractor has been working closely with us to ensure the least amount of impact on our guests. Based on the weather the entire project is expected to be completed in early October, but the road will be open except for select days when significant work is occuring.

In addition, sidewalk is being added along Baker St in front of Maxwell Mansion. Adding this sidewalk will help with the overall accessibility of sidewalks in Lake Geneva as currently there is not an ADA compliant sidewalk path along Baker St as well as making it even easier to get to Maxwell Mansion on foot!

As we receive updates regarding required detours we will post them below.

If you are accessing Maxwell Mansion from highway 50 the only change during this detour is that you will enter Maxwell Mansion from Cass St as indicated on the detour map below.

If you are coming from the south on Wells St you will need to use this detour as outlined on the map to access Maxwell Mansion:

  • Wells St will be closed at Campbell Street

  • Turn left on Campbell Street

  • At the stop sign turn right on to S Lake Shore Drive

  • Follow the curve to the left on S Lake Shore Dr (Note you cannot go straight here or turn right as these are one-way streets)

  • As you come up to the lake the street will curve again, this time to the right.

  • At the fork, Take a right on to Center Street.

  • At the stop light turn right on to Main St / Highway 50 (There is a Starbucks and the Post Office at this intersection)

  • At the stop light turn right on to Wells St (Burger King and KFC are on the corner)

  • Turn right on Cass St

  • Turn left into Maxwell Mansion, this is a narrow road so go slow when turning left

  • If you are checking-in proceed to the location of the yellow star to reach Guest Services

Temporary Detours

Between now and early October there may be temporary detours as the crews work on various projects including curb and cutter. Please utilize the detour route posted and outlined on the right.

UPDATE October 12, 2023

Road construction on Wells St is now complete.

Prior Updates

UPDATE October 10, 2023

Paving was completed last week. Today Wells St will be closed from approximately Noon until 2pm as the crews complete the center line markings on the road.

UPDATE October 4, 2023

We were notified today that tomorrow October 5, paving will be taking place on Wells St. Therefore the street will be closed. Please follow the detour shown on the map on this page. Thank you for your understanding.UPDATE September 15, 2023

Expect a short closure on Wells St on the morning of September 15, 2023. Intermittent closures are expected over the next few weeks, if we receive advance notice we will post it here. Please use caution and drive slowly as the road is uneven in the construction zone.

Update September 2, 2023

The first phase of the construction was completed earlier this week which involved removing the top layer of asphalt on the road. Please use caution and drive slowly as the road is uneven in the construction zone.

Completed - Detour August 30, 2023

RESCHEDULED FROM AUGUST 28 to AUGUST 30. The first phase of the construction will take now place on August 30, 2023, weather pending, and will require Wells St to be closed directly outside our primary entrances. The contractor expects to complete this starting at 7am and finishing the work by 5pm.
